RJ May resigns from SC House of Representatives following child pornography charges
Lexington, S.C. (WOLO)– Now-former State Representative RJ May (R-Lexington Co.) has resigned from the house.
May submitted his resignation in a letter to Governor Henry McMaster Monday.
According to the US Attorneys Office, May faces ten federal charges related to the distribution of more than 200 videos containing child sexual abuse material.
According to the Associated Press, May used the screen name “Joe Biden 69” to exchange files of toddlers and young children involved in sex acts.
May was a founding member of the conservative SC Freedom Caucus.
That group released a statement Monday saying, “RJ May’s resignation from the SC House of Representatives is long overdue. The people of District 88 deserve true and honorable representation. While we welcome his resignation, we strongly believe the SC House should have acted to expel RJ May after he was indicted for such heinous crimes. Our hearts are with his victims and his innocent family and we pray for swift justice as this ugly chapter in the SC House of Representatives comes to a close.”
