Man allegedly shot female on I-26 westbound at exit 82, Newberry County deputies say
NEWBERRY COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– Newberry County investigators say area campuses are on lockdown after shootings in the area.
Investigators say Monday morning, a hispanic male identified as Wilfrido George Luna, 45, of West Columbia, allegedly shot a female and then left across the interstate on I-26 westbound at exit 82, also known as the Prosperity exit.
During the search for the male, Mid-Carolina School campuses were placed on lockdown for about 30 mintues and Prosperity Richard School was placed on alert.
Deputies apprehended the suspect at the Mid Carolina Country Club.
SLED Crime Scene investigators, along with deputies and other state agencies, are currently at the scene, investigating the shooting as a homicide.
The victim was identify as Rose Helen Kewlani of West Columbia.
An autopsy has been requested and will be performed this week.
And law enforcement say they are continuing to investigate the cause of the shooting.
