RCSD: Man accused of killing family member with tire iron

 

RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– RCSD Sheriff Leon Lott says a man was arrested in connection with an assault that happened in the 800 block of Woodside Avenue.

Deputies say the assault happened on August 5.

On August 5, around 2:30 p.m., deputies responded in the 800 block of Woodside Avenue in reference to a request for assistance from EMS.

While at the scene deputies found Reginald Owens inside a home with EMS and the victim.

Owens was detained at the home.

The victim suffered severe injuries to the upper body and was taken by EMS to a local hospital, according to RCSD.

Further investigation revealed that Owens had been in a verbal argument with the victim who was a family member.

During the altercation, Owens attacked the victim with a tire iron, says Richland County Sheriff’s Department.

Owens was arrested and charged with possession of a weapon during a violent crime and attempted murder.

Law enforcement say several days after Owens’s arrest, the victim succumbed to his injuries.

So, Owens’ attempted murder charge was upgraded to murder, he is detained at Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
