ASGDC guard arrested for assault on inmate

RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott says an Alvin S. Glenn guard was arrested for assault on an inmate.

On August 18, 2025, the Richland County Sheriff’s Department received a report from an investigator at the ASGDC of an assault that happened.

According to RCSD, the report detailed an incident that occurred on July 15, at around 3:40 p.m. in which Johnette Pinckney-Martinez is accused of using force on an inmate.

During the investigation, Sgt. Pinckney-Martinez’s account of the use of force did not match the accounts from other guards that were at the scene.

While reviewing body worn camera video, Sgt. Pinckney-Martinez could be seen cornering an inmate and striking him several times in his face and head area with her taser causing the taser to break, says RCSD.

The inmate received injuries from the assault that required stitches.

On August 19, RCSD investigators arrested Pinckney-Martinez.

She was charged with assault and battery 3rd degree and misconduct in office.

Additionally, she was booked into the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center, where she is awaiting a bond hearing.
