RCSD Sheriff to give update on deputy involved shooting

RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– Richland County deputies say a man was killed in an officer involved shooting this morning.

Investigators say they responded in the 300 block of Ovanta Road around 10 a.m., Tuesday morning, August 26, to a report of shots fired.

Deputies say a man fired shots at construction workers before ultimately pointing his gun at deputies.

Then deputies began to shoot, Sheriff Leon Lott says.

The sheriff says the suspect was taken to the hospital but died from his injuries.

The suspect was identified by the Richland County Coroner’s Office as Antonio D. Toney, 42, of Columbia.
