SUMTER COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– Sumter County Sheriff’s Office says construction site thefts led to a burglary, and drug arrest.

Jesse McDonald Preast, 38, of Timmerman Street, was placed in custody Friday after officers stopped a vehicle.

Officers say the vehicle was captured by surveillance cameras near the construction site at about the time of both break-ins.

Materials, together valued at more than $3,000, were reported stolen from the site on Aug. 20 before the suspect allegedly entered the property again on Friday.

No items were reported stolen during the second entry.

Law enforcement say a firearm, drugs, and burglary tools were found during a search of Preast’s vehicle.

He is charged with distribution of methamphetamine-2nd offense, possession of cocaine-2nd offense, possession of marijuana, trespassing, unlawful carry of a pistol, grand larceny (enhancement), possession of burglary tools, and two counts of burglary-3rd degree.

Preast is being held in the county detention center without bond, and the investigation is ongoing.
