South Carolina law officer being remembered

FOREST ACRES, S.C. (AP) — The Forest Acres community is gathering to remember a law officer killed 40 years ago.
On Friday, local officials and relatives of Richey Finch are holding a memorial service at the Forest Acres Police Department. A portion of Forest Drive is also being dedicated in his memory.
Finch had just graduated from the criminal justice academy when he was shot and killed during a traffic stop in 1974. After killing Finch, authorities say the same suspects shot and killed Kershaw County Sheriff’s Deputy Ernest Potter when he and his partner stopped to investigate hitchhikers on Interstate 20.
The shooter was sentenced to life in prison.
