UNITED STATES (CNN) – The U.S. Treasury Department says it plans to stop issuing paper checks on September 30th, including for social security recipients.

It’s part of the Trump Administration’s effort to fully modernize federal benefits payments, save money & fight financial fraud.

More than half-a-million Social Security recipients, less than 1%, need to choose another way to receive their Social Security benefits.

That can be either through direct deposit or through a pre-paid debit card known as Direct Express.

Some exceptions will be made, such as if you are 90 years or older, have a mental impairment or if you live in too remote of a location.

If you still need a paper check, you can request a waiver by clicking here.
