Third person arrested in connection with July Sumter County murder

SUMTER COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– A third person has been arrested in connection with a Sumter County murder that happened in July, said deputies.

Sumter County deputies said on Thursday afternoon, Sept. 18, Darrone Terrell McCray Jr. was arrested at a home in Florence by members of the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office
and the U.S. Marshals Task Force.

McCray was taken to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center where he is being held without bond.

He was arrested in connection with the July murder of Cameron Deshawn Pearson.

In addition to McCray’s arrest two other people Nyasia Nicole Vaughn, 18, and a 16-year-old juvenile, were previously arrested in connection with the case.

Vaughn remains in custody at the detention center without bond, while the juvenile was petitioned to family court.

Cameron Pearson was shot and killed on July 1 around 3 p.m. on Bluegrass Court.

“This senseless violence is a dead-end road with no future,” Dennis said. “People need to understand that when they commit these acts, we will not rest until they are brought to justice.”
