Open Ai’s Sora bans deepfakes of public figures

(CNN)– Open Ai says it will no longer allow users to generate videos of public figures without authorization from the person’s family.

In a social media statement, open Ai said that despite strong interest in depicting historical figures, the company believes families should ultimately control how a person’s likeness is used.

The decision comes after videos of Martin Luther KingJr., created by Open Ai’s Sora tool were deemed disrespectful and inappropriate.

The company says families or estate owners can now request that a person’s likeness not be used in Sora cameos.
