SLED releases child fatalities annual report

 

 

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– In honor of Safe Sleep Awareness Month, South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) has released its child fatalities annual report.

Investigators say last year (2024), the two most common types of cases for child deaths were unsafe sleep and gunshot wounds.

The report found that 95 of the 317 deaths were from causes related to an unsafe sleep environment.

Richland County had the most child deaths in 2024 with 32 reported, and Greenville reporting 28 deaths.
