SCSO: Rembert man killed after shooting following argument

SUMTER COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– Sumter County deputies say an argument among acquaintances turned deadly Saturday afternoon when a Rembert man was shot and killed.

Around 3:44 p.m., dispatchers received a call reporting a shooting on Louis Circle in the Rembert community.

Deputies responded to the area and found Rodney China, 51, deceased.

Witnesses told investigators that a verbal dispute between China and Quinshaun Dais escalated into a physical altercation.

During the confrontation, Dais allegedly fired several shots, hitting and killing China.

Dais was taken into custody at the scene and charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

He was taken to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center, where he is being held pending a bond hearing.

“This was totally avoidable and unnecessary It was an argument that could have remained civil. Instead, the argument turned into assault, and the suspect then resorted to deadly force,” Sheriff Anthony Dennis says.

The investigation is ongoing.
