Plutonium core recommendations

Aiken, SC (WOLO) — The Federal agency that oversees the Country’s nuclear weapons is recommending the production of the cores that trigger those weapons be split between South Carolina and New Mexico.

The National Nuclear Security Administration’s recommendation comes as the US is ramping up production of the plutonium cores to 80 per year. Most of those are produced at the Savanna River site in Aiken.
