Airports dealing with traffic controller shortage

(CNN)– The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has reported the first staffing shortages of the day on Tuesday, Oct. 28.

Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport and Newark Liberty International Airport were both short-staffed with air traffic controllers this morning.

Not every staffing shortage results in a delay as controllers can reroute flights.

But sometimes there is no choice but to slow planes down to maintain safety.

The staffing shortages come as air traffic controllers missed their first full paycheck since the start of the government shutdown.
