SLED investigating Lexington County officer involved shooting

LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) is investigating an officer involved shooting that happened in Lexington County, say SLED agents.

Agents say on Tuesday, November 4, officers with the Batesburg – Leesville Police Department were called to Enmarket gas station on West Columbia Avenue for a robbery.

When the initial officer arrived to the gas station, he entered the store after seeing the person taking money from the register, says SLED.

The person is accused of taking the officer’s taser and using it against the officer during a physical altercation.

Also, the person is accused of trying to take possession of the officer’s gun, and during the encounter the gun discharged.

No one was hit by gunfire.

SLED says a second officer showed up to the gas station and apprehended the person.

The person and the two officers were taken to a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Batesburg-Leesville Police Department requested SLED to investigate the officer involved shooting.

The police department is investigating criminal charges related to the robbery and assault.

The SLED investigation is ongoing at the moment also.

SLED conducts law enforcement officer involved shooting (OIS) investigations at the request of the agency involved in the incident or the agency with jurisdiction.

Although, this is the first officer involved shooting for the Batesburg-Leesville Police Department this year.

The incident in Lexington County is the 41st officer involved shooting in South Carolina in 2025.
