SLED investigating after chase led to deputy involved shooting
ORANGEBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– SLED is investigating after a chase led to deputy involved shooting on Saturday, said officials.
SLED said, while an Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office deputy was patrolling, on Saturday, Nov. 15, they saw a man driving a stolen black Ford Mustang.
After a vehicle pursuit in Orangeburg County, the driver of the stolen vehicle crashed into a tree in St. Matthews, S.C., which is in Calhoun County.
The driver then got out of the car and attacked the deputy, according to law enforcement.
SLED agents said, during an altercation with the deputy, the man attempted to get into the deputy’s vehicle, and the deputy then shot the man.
Both the deputy and the man sustained injuries from the encounter and were taken to the hospital for treatment.
The deputy was released, and the man remains hospitalized at this time.
SLED was requested to investigate by the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office and the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office.
