40% fewer holiday hires this year
(CNN)– If you’re looking for a seasonal job, it may be harder to come by this year.
A recent survey by the National Retail Federation found stores are expected to hire fewer workers this holiday season, up to 40% less.
That’s not just bad news for employees seeking extra cash, it also means holiday shoppers won’t have as much help in stores.
Retailers say economic uncertainty is a reason for the hiring crunch.
Retail experts say overall staffing levels have also changed this year.
Less full-time employees are quitting their jobs, which means there’s less need for seasonal workers.
