One injured, one in custody after Sumter County shooting

SUMTER COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– One person was injured by gunfire and another was taken into custody by the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office on Friday morning, says the sheriff’s office.

Deputies responded to a home on Children’s Lane after receiving a call around 9 a.m. on Friday, Dec 5.

The sheriff’s office says the deputies arrived to the scene to find a gunshot victim and identified a suspect who they say is the brother of the victim.

Deputies provided emergency first aid to the victim who was then taken to Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital by Emergency Medical Services (EMS).

The suspect who was identified as Staton Cole Montgomery was taken into custody and taken to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center.

Montgomery is being held pending a bond hearing.
