Australia bans social media for kids under 16

(CNN)– Wednesday, Dec. 10, Australia banned children under 16 from using social media.

The tech industry disagrees the restriction makes kids safer, but companies say they will implement it with age verification technology.

For U.S. parents some experts see it as an opportunity.

They say talking to kids about social media is important, and say the ban could be a conversation starter.

They add that kids need limits.

Experts also say parents should remember social media has both pros and cons.
