Student arrested after allegedly making social media threat toward private school

SUMTER, S.C. (WOLO)– Sumter PD says a school threat made on social media in October led to a student being placed in custody.

Officers of the Sumter Police Department received information from federal agents Thursday, Dec. 11, of social media posts made in October of a threat at Wilson Hall that was never carried out.

Information collected by law enforcement was used to identify the 14-year-old student involved.

According to investigators, the student was placed in custody Thursday, Dec. 11, and is being held in a state Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) facility.

The investigation is continuing.
