RCSD: 1 arrested for murder after verbal argument turns physical

RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– Richland County deputies say one person was arrested in connection with a shooting that happened over the weekend.
RCSD says at about 11 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 20, deputies received a call in relation to a shooting in the 800 block of Polo Road.
At the scene, a male victim was found with gunshot wounds to the upper body.
Deputies rendered aid to the victim until EMS arrived.
The victim was taken to the hospital where he was later pronounced deceased, according to the sheriff’s dept.
According to the Richland County Coroner’s Office, 30-year-old Brian G. Barrett was identified as the victim.
While at the scene, deputies learned that Charles McCants and the victim were in a verbal argument that turned physical.
McCants is accused of shooting the victim multiple times, and leaving the scene after.
He was later found in Hartsville and detained by Hartsville Police Department.
Also, McCants was arrested and charged with murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
He was taken to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center where he is awaiting a bond hearing.
