ELGIN, S.C. (WOLO) — As we approach a decade after the terrorists attacks that changed a nation, a survivor of the Pentagon attack shares his story of healing and hope. Victor Correa is still haunted by images of burning buildings, even burning bodies, as he sacrificed his feelings to help rescue others from the rubble of the Pentagon, September 11, 2001. After realizing he was still alive, he says his faith in God and military training kicked in. He was able to help lead dozens of terrified co-workers from a smoke-filled building to safety; however, more than 100 people perished. The retired army colonel’s good deeds earned him a Purple Heart for Wounds Received in Action. His story has been recounted in several books. But he says the reward he is most grateful for, is having been given a second chance.
