President Trump threatens to ban investors from buying single-family homes

(CNN)– President Trump says he plans to ban large investors from buying up more single-family homes.

In a social media post Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2026, Trump stated he is taking steps to ban large institutional investors from buying up single-family properties, and calling on Congress to codify it.

Investors like Blackstone, JP Morgan Chase, and other banks and investment firms have increasingly snapped up family homes in recent years, eyeing rising returns on home prices.

Trump said he plans to outline additional housing and affordability proposals in the coming weeks.
