Local Living: MLK weekend
LOCAL LIVING: COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)— In today’s look at Local Living, there will be several events to honor Martin Luther King Jr. next week.
The City of Columbia will host their 38th annual MLK Service on Monday, January 19.
It will take place at 4 p.m. at Martin Luther King Jr. Park on Green Street.
Prior to the service there will be a wreath laying ceremony at the Stone of Hope at 3 p.m.
The annual King Day at the Dome is coming back to the State House on Monday, January 19.
The prayer service at Zion Baptist Church starts at 8 in the morning.
Followed by a march to the State House at 9:30 a.m. with the event starting at 10 a.m.
U.S. Senator Cory Booker will be the keynote speaker.
Loretta Coleman Community Connections is hosting a MLK celebration event on Monday, Jan.19.
Doors open at 1 p.m. and the event starts at 2 p.m. at the Living Word of Deliverance Temple Worship Center on Winyah Drive.
Several artists including Gospel legends will perform.
It costs $30 at the door.
The Columbia Museum of Art is recognizing MLK Day with free admission and special programming.
There will be a storytelling celebration called “Continuing Dr. King’s Dream” at noon.
It will also feature line dancing on Boyd Plaza.
