OCSO: Mother charged in connection with infant death

ORANGEBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– An Orangeburg woman accused of the death of her baby has been arrested.

Orangeburg County deputies say on December 16, 2025, a one-year-old baby was brought to MUSC Orangeburg unresponsive with a body temperature of 90 degrees.

The baby was pronounced dead shortly after arriving to the hospital.

An autopsy found blunt force trauma injuries to the abdomen, including a lacerated liver and several bruises to internal organs, say officials.

A warrant states that 19-year-old Jaz’Men Bristow told authorities with the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office that she was in care of her child, overnight sleeping on her chest, until she found him unresponsive.

Bristow was charged with murder/homicide by child abuse.
