Chinese app changes its name

(CNN)– A viral Chinese app that taps into loneliness is getting a new name.

In China the app is called “Are you dead”? It is aimed for those who live alone.

The app requires users to check in every day.

If a person misses several days, the app automatically sends an alert to the user’s emergency contact.

Following its explosive popularity around the world, the app announced earlier this week the it would adopt the name “Demumu” for its global users.

It also introduced a subscription fee.
