Lexington Two to host teacher fair

LEXINGTON, S.C. (WOLO)–  This is the time of year when many school districts host job fairs, hoping to recruit the very best teachers.

Many come from other schools or are soon to graduate with an education related degree, but not all teachers.

Some come from other professions after feeling called to the classroom.

Jaylin Wyndam kindergarten classroom is a place at Casey Elementary where a little laughter is part of learning.

When considering a teaching career, she talked about remembering her kindergarten teacher and feeling like she, too, could make a difference.

That’s when she decided to leave her ministry job that she’d worked since graduating college; however, before changing jobs, she spent some time shadowing a kindergarten teacher.

She says as soon as she went into the classroom, she knew she wanted to be a teacher.

Then, she did her homework researching alternative pathways that allow teachers to earn professional certification while working in the classroom.

According to Lexington School District two’s Alternative Programs Coordinator, Dr. Tammy Small, 52 of the district’s 626 teachers are pursuing an alternative pathway to certification.

Small’s job is to make sure that from the start, they have what they need.

If you’re thinking the classroom is the place for you or you’re looking for a new teaching job, check out the Lexington Two Teacher Job Fair.

It runs from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesday, January 27, 2026,  at the Lexington Two Performing Arts Center which is located on Platt Springs Road in West Columbia.

You can visit Lex2.org to register.
