Mitchell 1 Of 12 Finalists For Wade Trophy

COLUMBIA, S.C. (USC SID) — South Carolina sophomore guard Tiffany Mitchell is one of 12 finalists for The Wade Trophy, the Wade Trophy Committee, along with the Women‘s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and SHAPE America, announced today. The Wade Trophy is presented annually to the nation‘s most outstanding NCAA Division I women‘s basketball player. Mitchell is one of just three non-seniors among this year‘s 12 finalists and is the third Gamecock all-time to on the list. The SEC Player of the Year, Mitchell is also one of three finalists for the Dawn Staley Award. With 15.6 points per game, she is the team‘s leading scorer and has consistently ranked among the SEC‘s top 10 in the category. Mitchell also leads the Gamecocks in assists with 3.5 per game. Between her scoring and assists, she has accounted for at least one-third of the Gamecocks‘ offense in 15 games this season. She has seven games of five or more assists and 30 of double-digit scoring. Mitchell also rebounds well from her guard position, posting a pair of double-doubles this season, including a 20-point, 10-rebound outing against Oregon State to help put the Gamecocks into the NCAA Sweet 16. Mitchell joins three other Gamecocks who have earned a finalist spot for The Wade Trophy – Sheila Foster (1981, 1982(, Shannon Johnson (1996) and Jocelyn Penn (2003).
