Babysitter sentenced to 33 years in prison following infant’s death

Kershaw Co., S.C. (WOLO)– Officials with the Fifth Circuit Solicitor’s Office say a man was convicted and sentenced in the 2020 death of a 10 month old infant.

Officials say Jacob Wescott was sentenced to 33 years in prison.

According to authorities, on March 9, 2020 Kershaw Co. firefighters and deputies responded to a call after the infant whom Wescott was babysitting at the time, stopped breathing.

After taking the baby to the hospital it was determined the child had extensive head and body injuries including a brain bleed.

The infant ultimately died on March 11th.

Investigators say they determined the baby’s injuries were caused by shaken baby syndrome.
