Richland One middle school celebrates Chinese New Year

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– It may be February but today some students at Hand Middle School celebrated the new year, the Chinese New Year.

The students are part of Richland School District One’s Language Immersion Program.

Students sang songs in Chinese and did a bit of dancing.

There was also a fashion show featuring outfits from Chinese culture.

In Chinese culture, each new year is represented by an animal.

2026 is the year of the horse.
