Blythewood area traffic being diverted after traffic collision

BLYTHEWOOD, S.C. (WOLO)– Deputies are advising drivers of a traffic collision that happened on US-21 at the Fairfield and Richland County line.

Drivers are encouraged to avoid the area if possible and use alternate routes until the roadway is fully reopened.

Investigators say the roadway is expected to reopen soon once the scene has been safely cleared.

Traffic is being diverted around the area as follows:
• Richland County units are diverting traffic to Portia Road
• Fairfield County units are diverting traffic to Smallwood Road

Emergency personnel from the Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office, Fairfield County EMS, Fairfield County Fire and Rescue, South Carolina Highway Patrol, and Richland County Sheriff’s Department are currently at the scene managing the incident and assisting those involved.

Officials say one individual has been determined to be deceased as a result of the collision.

Deputies say USHwy 21 will be shut down until around 4 p.m.
