SC Lawmakers introduce bill to repeal same sex marriage

Columbia, S.C. (WOLO)– A bill filed Thursday in the SC House of Representatives seeks to repeal same sex marriage in South Carolina.

The measure H.5501  was introduced by a group of 12 Republican lawmakers.

According to the bill, it is a “Concurrent resolution to reject the Supreme Court of the United States Obergefell decision and to call on the supreme court to reverse Obergefell and restore the natural law definition of marriage, a union of one man and one woman and to insist on restoring the issue of marriage and enforcement of all laws pertaining to marriage back to the several states and the people.”
On its website, SC Equality, the state’s largest LBGTQ+ advcoacy group says it is “monitoring H.5501 through the legislative session, mobilizing its statewide network, and holding the bill’s sponsors accountable.”
