Columbia, S.C. (WOLO) – A power plant in Wilmington was forced to shutdown Friday after flooding from Hurricane Florence had caused breached in their dam.

A spokesperson from the Duke Energy power plant said the floodwaters continue to over-top a steel retaining wall leading to the plant’s coal ash dumps.

The flooding has also breached several dikes that lead back into the river. The company said that it cannot rule out that ash might be escaping into the Cape Fear River.
