Sumter County deputies investigating after delivery driver attacked by dog

SUMTER COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– Sumter Co. deputies are investigating after a delivery driver was attacked Tuesday morning, says the sheriff’s office.

Law enforcement say deputies responded to a Tuesday morning call in Rembert in relation to a delivery driver who was seriously injured by a resident’s dog.

Deputies say the driver was attacked while attempting to deliver a package to a home on Claremont Road.

The victim was airlifted to Prisma Richland Hospital, and is in critical condition.

The dog has been identified as a Cane Corso/Pit Bull mix and is quarantined in the custody of the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Animal Control Division.

Sheriff Anthony Dennis states, “The injuries sustained by the victim are extremely traumatic. Animal ownership is a privilege and is a serious responsibility.”

According to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, deputies are investigating the incident to determine the vicious nature of the dog.
