LCSD: Newberry teen accused of firing shots in air during event at park

LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– Lexington County deputies say they’ve arrested a Newberry teen accused of firing shots in the air during an event at Crooked Creek Park in Chapin Saturday.

18-year-old Najee Thompson is charged with several crimes including using a firearm by a person under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

According to deputies, Thompson told them he fired the shots because he thought the park was “the country.”

No injuries were reported and no other shots were fired.

Deputies say they also cited a minor who had a gun at the park.

The minor was released to his parent.
