Police: Event organizer cited after rodeo stampede

Gaston, S.C. (WOLO)–  Officials with the Gaston Police Department say the man who organized a rodeo where several people were injured is now facing a citation.

Police say Efrain Sanchez Mercado was issued a citation for Reckless Discharge of Fireworks.

According to an incident report, on Saturday night police responded to El Rancho Eden on Main St. in Gaston after several people were run over by horses.

Police  say fireworks set off at the location caused the hoses to stampede through the crowd.

Investigators say several people at the event were charged with public drunkenness and disorderly conduct.
