Elgin man sentenced to life plus 65 years in prison for drive-by shooting that killed teen

KERSHAW COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– An Elgin man has been sentenced to life plus 65 years in prison for a drive-by shooting that killed a teenager back in 2022 in Kershaw County.

25-year-old Troy Keitt Jr. was convicted of murder, two counts of attempted murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.

According to investigators, in July of 2022 Keitt and three accomplices followed the victim’s car down Watts Hill Road on Highway 1 pulled alongside it and opened fire.

17-year-old Justice Rutherford was killed and another juvenile was injured.

Keitt is being held at the Kirkland Correctional Institution.
