Wildfire 50 Percent Contained
PICKENS, S.C. (AP) _ Forestry crews are battling a wildfire that has consumed about 100 acres on Sassafras Mountain on the North Carolina-South Carolina state line. The fire broke out on Friday and crews remained at the scene in western South Carolina on Saturday. The South Carolina Forestry Commission said the fire was about 50 percent contained. The commission was using tractors to build a fire breaks around the blaze. A fixed wing aircraft was also being used to help monitor the fire. Sassafras Mountain is just over 3,500 feet high and is the highest point in South Carolina. (Source : Associated Press)
