Heathwood’s Wilson Chooses South Carolina

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — The country’s top-ranked female basketball recruit A’ja Wilson has decided to play her college basketball at South Carolina. Wilson made the announcement Wednesday afternoon on ESPNU at Columbia’s Heathwood Hall. Wilson never named a favorite throughout her recruitment, only revealing that she’d be deciding between South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee and the University of Connecticut. Wilson, a 6-foot-4 wing, averaged 35 points, 15 rebounds and five blocks during her senior year at Heathwood and led her team to a state championship. She also played with Team USA last summer in the U19 world championships in Lithuania. Wilson averaged 10.9 points and a team-high 7.9 rebounds during the team’s run to the gold medal. In December, she set the CresCom Bank Holiday Invitational single-game scoring record with 56 points. Wilson also broke the four-game records for points (167) and rebounds (83) at the Myrtle Beach event.
