8 people in apartment building left displaced after fire

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– CRFD second shift crews working with Irmo Fire Department were able to stop an apartment fire from spreading throughout the building on Wednesday morning, said officials.

Firefighters responded to a building fire at The Lory of Harbison shortly before 10:45 a.m. on Weds, June 3, 2026.

Smoke could be scene coming from the roof of the building when firefighters first arrived, said Columbia-Richland Fire Dept.

All occupants of the building escaped safely.

Three tenants of the apartment where the fire broke out were treated at the scene by Richland County EMS and released after.

Crews entered the apartment, extinguished the fire and brought a cat and dog in the unit out to safety also, according to fire officials.

Crews said a third pet did not survive the fire incident.

The unit where the fire started was left with significant damages, one apartment below was also damaged by water.

A total of eight people in the building have been left displaced.

Fire officials said, the fire was caused by unattended cooking in the upstairs apartment.
