Case of measles confirmed in the Lowcountry
LOWCOUNTRY, S.C. (WOLO)– The South Carolina Department of Public Health has confirmed a case of measles in the Lowcountry.
Officials say the person is an adult in Hampton County who is unvaccinated and did not have immunity from a previous measles infection.
The source of exposure is unknown but the person recently traveled internationally.
Officials say eight people were identified as potentially exposed, and recommended for quarantine through June 21.
Officials also say the best way to prevent measles is through vaccination.
