U.S. Treasury Department changes bank for social security debit cards
(CNN)– A major change is coming for many of the tens of millions of Americans who receive social security.
The treasury is changing the bank that issues the direct express debit cards where monthly benefits are deposited.
Fifth Third Bank will replace Comerica Bank sometime before early next year.
A little more than three-and-a-half million beneficiaries are specifically affected by this change.
Recipients will receive information and the new cards in the months ahead.
By year’s end anyone still receiving benefits by check will automatically be moved to the direct express card.
