CRFD said, Columbia-Richland 1st shift crews rescued three children from a house fire on Floran Street Monday night, June 29, 2026.

Crews arrived shortly before 9:30 p.m. Monday to find smoke showing from the home.

Firefighters forced entry through the front door and encountered heavy smoke and fast deteriorating interior conditions, said CRFD.

The fire was located in the front of the home.

Rescue 1 began searching the structure alongside Engine 1 and Ladder 7, and during the search, firefighters located three children in and near several bedrooms.

The children were taken outside of the home, and provided with medical care for severe burn injuries before being taken to Richland County EMS for transport to a local hospital.

From there they were taken to the JMS Burn Center in Augusta for further treatment.

While the rescues were underway, the fire was quickly brought under control, according to the fire dept.

The Columbia Police Department is investigating the fire as a criminal matter for suspected arson and child endangerment.
