Senator Tim Scott working to make sure college students have mental healthcare access

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– Senator Tim Scott is partnering with other ranking members to make sure students in college have the mental healthcare they need, when they need it.

Senators Scott and Blumenthal are re-introducing the legislation to prevent suicides and make sure students have quality care available to them.

ABC Columbia spoke to Sen. Scott about how important this is specifically to the University of South Carolina.

The plan is called the “Enhancing Mental Health & Suicide Prevention Act.”

It still will need federal agencies like Health & Human Services along with the Department of Education to get it passed.

One federal official said ‘The data is clear. This is a key point in completing college degrees’.
