Meth in the Midlands: Is it a growing problem?
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — Kershaw County Sheriff Jim Matthews says his deputies are fighting what appears to be a growing problem, methamphetamine laboratories. In all of 2013, Kershaw County had three meth lab busts, already this year they’ve had six. Richland County had 23 calls in 2013 and one so far this year. Lexington County had 74 in 2013 and 26 so far this year. Richland County adds, year-to-year busts are low and Lexington County says this year’s busts are about the same as last year at this time. However, in Kershaw County, Sheriff Matthews say, meth is getting worse. “Over the years, the meth manufacturers have found new ways to make meth,” says Matthews.
