Last day to file for covid-19 IRS refund

(CNN)– Friday, July 10, 2026, is the last chance for millions of taxpayers to protect their chance at a potential covid-19 related IRS refund.

The claims stem from a federal court ruling that found certain tax filing and payment deadlines may have been suspended during the covid-19 emergency.

The government is appealing that ruling.

However, should the decision stand some taxpayers who paid or were charged late penalties or interest between January 2020 and May 2023 could qualify for a refund.
