Father Speaks Out After Getting Lost For Days

Columbia, S.C. (WOLO)–The father who was lost in the Congaree National Park with his two young children for days says he is not planning a return trip.

JR Kimbler says he was in tears he was so happy when he saw rescue workers at 7:30 Tuesday morning after being lost in the woods since Saturday.

Kimbler spoke with reporters at a news conference at Palmetto Health Richland Children’s Hospital Tuesday afternoon.

Kimbler says when they initially lost their way everything started to look the same, it was like they were going in circles.

When the sun went down and the cooler temperatures set in, Kimbler tells us, he hugged his children and they all pulled their shirts over their knees to keep warm.

Kimbler says his worst fear would be that the search would be called off.

When asked where he planned on taking his children next, Kimbler joked, “Probably a skating rink.”
