Retail sales rose less than expected in June

(CNN)– Retail sales rose last month but not as much as economists expected.

The U.S. Commerce Department says spending increased just .2% in June from the month before.

That’s lower than the .3% gain economists expected.

Online retailers and car dealerships led the way with both seeing sales jump nearly 2%.

Economists say Amazon’s Prime Day and the World Cup helped boost spending.
