Sheriff Lott held press conference to discuss parent, juvenile accountability

RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– Sheriff Leon Lott held a press conference on Friday evening to discuss parent and juvenile accountability.

Richland County deputies say they are cracking down on parents either assisting teens in crimes or endangering their children with criminal activity.

Friday afternoon, July 17, Sheriff Leon Lott outlined three such cases.

Lott says in one case, a mother is charged with helping her son evade capture after he was involved in a robbery that resulted in a double murder.

In another case, according to the sheriff, a loaded gun was found in the room of a small child.

And in another, a woman is accused of aiding her son after he shot and killed a department K9 officer.

In total the sheriff says since their Accountability Operation began they have charged 12 parents in connection with their children’s crimes.
