South Carolina drivers see gas prices rise Monday, averaging $3.74 a gallon statewide

(WCIV) — The average price of gas in South Carolina has jumped up 10.3 cents per gallon as of Monday as escalations between the US and Iran continue putting upward pressure on the cost of gas nationwide.

Officials report that the new average price of gas in the state is approximately $3.74 per gallon according to GasBuddy’s survey of 3,028 stations in South Carolina. Prices are trending 28.4 cents per gallon higher than a month ago and 97.6 cents per gallon higher than a year ago.

“Average gasoline and diesel prices rose in nearly every state over the last week, as continued escalations between the U.S. and Iran, renewed Houthi attacks in the Red Sea, and fresh Ukrainian strikes on Russian oil refineries combined to keep upward pressure on both crude and refined product markets,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy.

GasBuddy price reports state that the cheapest station in the state was prices at $3.37 per gallon on Sunday, while the most expensive was $5.19 per gallon. With that drastic nearly two dollar difference, it could pay off for motorists to hunt around for the cheapest gas.

Meanwhile the national average price of gas has risen a similar 10.8 center per gallon in the past week, setting a new average at $4.06 per gallon as of Monday. De Haan states that despite this increase, oil prices show that there is the potential for only moderate increases looking ahead.

“A weekend pullback in hostilities offered some relief, with oil prices opening sharply lower Sunday, suggesting the pace of increases at the pump may moderate in the days ahead. For now, motorists should expect prices to remain elevated, but the intensity of further gains will depend heavily on how the geopolitical situation develops in the coming week,” said De Haan.

This recorded average is up 23.9 cents per gallon from a month ago and stands 95.6 cents per gallon higher than a year ago, according to GasBuddy data compiled from more than 11 million weekly price reports covering over 150,000 gas stations across the country.
